Friday Favourites

Another week has gone by and I don’t know about you but mine has been pretty jam packed.

Pole class turn private lesson. On Saturdays my pole classes are at 8am, which understandably it’s hard for some people to find the motivation. We’re a few weeks in to term now and it was only me at the last class so it turned into a bit of a private lesson as well which was great.

Lunch with my grandparents. On Sunday I caught up with my grandparents for lunch for the first time in a while which was nice.

Home away from home. With everything that’s going on in my personal life it was nice to take a bit of time away from home and stay at my Dad’s for the week while he was away. My dog and I even enjoyed a nice walk in the reserve that backs on to the house.

Business cards arrived. I ordered some business cards for Nutrimetics and they arrived in the post this week, woohoo!

Nutrimetics Centre Stage. Nutrimetics held a centre stage event called the Professional Make-up Masterclass where we got to hear about the newest eye shadow Nutrimetics have brought out in their professional make-up range.

Monarto Zoo Volunteer Day. I had a lovely day up at the zoo on Wednesday, it was only 2 degrees when I got up there but the sun was shining brightly and it turned out to be a lovely day.

Aquapole. Another week and another workout with a couple of my girlfriends, I am enjoying being able to see them every week!

See what I mean about a jam packed week! I hope you all had a great week and please feel free to share your highlights in the comments.

Take care,

Jas

Exploring how to achieve my “wants”

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, trying to work out what I want to be doing with my life, and I’ve come up with a few ideas which I have been further exploring to do some goal setting to help me achieve them.

Here’s a list of things that I came up with:

  • I’d like to be more active
  • I’d like to be fit
  • I’d like to be good at pole dancing
  • I’d like my eating to be healthier
  • I’d like my house to be neat and tidy
  • I’d like my house to be clean
  • I’d like to be more in touch with my spiritual side

I’ve come up with a brief description of each of these things to help me start building goals around them.

Being more active

The big question is, what kind of active to do I want to be? I’m thinking active things that I find fun, so things like pole dancing, kayaking, walking, visiting the zoo. The next thing I’d need to have a think about is how often I want to do it and how often I actually can do these things.

Being fit

I suppose the thing with this is really what my measurement of fitness is. I imagine this might change over time as I achieve the level of fitness I want now, then I can set another goal. At the moment, being able to run 5km and doing a complex pole routine without feeling like I’m dying at the end is how I’d measure fitness currently.

Pole dancing

I have a long way to go before I am what I think of as a good pole dancer, but I have a few milestones along the way to help get me there. So being able to hold an invert, then choreographing a routine and then maybe competing in an amateur competition before moving on to something like Miss Pole Dance.

Healthy eating

Lots of people have different ideas about what this looks like and to be honest I don’t really by into much of the fad stuff like paleo or raw diets or whatever. I particularly find it challenging to have the time to do all of that but nevertheless would like to make healthy changes to what I’m eating. So for me that means less cafe bought lunches, more fruits or fruit products like dried fruits or fruit yoghurt, and more salad wraps rather than heavy bread sandwiches or rolls, and definitely healthier dinners. One of my biggest problems is grazing once I get home, so I need to figure out how to wind that back.

Neat and tidy house

I suspect this is going to be a challenging one because I live with my partner and will really need his input in cleaning up after himself. He’s shocking at it, and I’m not the best but I can keep on top of my own mess when I apply myself but he’s a bit of a slob which frustrates me. So this one is going to be about talking with him I think, discussing what is an isn’t an acceptable measure of messiness, and maybe even create a roster of some sort to help keep the house tidy.

A cleaner house

This ties in with the previous one. I already put a lot of effort into keeping the house clean, but with two people and a dog it takes more than what I would do living on my own. Really for this I would like to see no dog hair on the floor, if something is spilt on the floor it’s cleaned up straight away, and for the toilet and shower to be cleaned more regularly. This one I think is really going to need a roster that I’m sure I’ll have to enforce somehow.

My spiritual side

To me this is all about spending time with myself doing things like meditation, maybe a bit of yoga and relaxation as well. The self-love and self-healing sort of stuff. There are all sorts of sessions, half day retreats, and even weekends where you can go and spend time doing this stuff so I think it’ll be a matter of making sure I book in to do some of those.

Now that I have a bit of an idea of what for me is involved in each of these I can begin to make some solid plans and goals to help me achieve those. I think I have a lot of work ahead of me with some of it, but I feel good about doing it and working towards all of this.

Have you done this before? Looked at the things that you want and done some goal setting and planning around them? Do you have any tips or tricks you can share with me?

Take care,

Jas

Photo An Hour, November 2015 – Average day around the house

As per usual I fell asleep before I could upload these photos from yesterday so the last photo is at 8:15pm. Yep I’m sad to say that I was so tired after a day of doing nothing that I fell asleep really early!

7:15am – Good morning from my little pooch!

IMAG1451

8:15am – Doing some reading after eating my breakfast.

IMAG1452

9:15am – Emptying out the bookcase that’s in the lounge. We wanted to get a new bookcase for the study to put all of our uni textbooks on, but we didn’t want to buy another cheapie that would hide away in the study. So instead I’m clearing out this cheapie to stick in the study and we’ll get a nice stained wood one for the lounge.

IMAG1453

10:15am – Emptying out boxes of books and putting them in the bookcase. There’s still another box of textbooks to go, plus all of the printed out copies of assignments and lecture notes and stuff. Still not sure how to make them look nice on the shelf, I’m thinking maybe a couple of fancy looking boxes just so it looks a bit more tidy.

IMAG1454

11:15am – The never-ending pile of laundry. This is the first of several loads that need to be done.

IMAG1455

12:15pm – And because I needed to get out of the house, I did the grocery shopping.

IMAG1456

1:15pm – Lunch and watching some TV.

IMAG1457

2:15pm – It was at this point I realised I didn’t have to do any uni work and so I picked up a book…and promptly fell asleep.

IMAG1458

3:15pm – Another attempt at reading the book for a little bit after my nap. It was so hard not to go back to sleep!

IMAG1459

4:15pm – Time to stop being lazy for a bit and put some of the now dry washing away.

IMAG1460

5:15pm – Colouring in…and I finished a page! Has anyone else tried this adult colouring in thing? I am oddly drawn to it…

IMAG1461

6:15pm – More household chores… A load of dishes before I start cooking and make more dishes.

IMAG1462

7:15pm – Another quick break to start a new colouring page and then over to cooking dinner…

IMAG1463

8:15pm – Last picture of the night is of the beef stroganoff I made for dinner. After eating that, it didn’t take long for me to fall asleep on the couch and then stumble into bed.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, let me know in the comments if you have anything special, or any photos you would like to share.

Friday Favourites, 23 October

Well the last week has been a really busy week for me. I was still at the Pole Festival so a lot of my highlights have come from that!

Handstands. As an adult have you tried doing handstands? It is so hard, and so much more technical than I thought it was as a kid! I did a couple of these workshops at Pole Festival, and it was challenging but it was so much fun and I learnt heaps about how to balance in handstands.

Static pole. I have trained on the spinning pole and really haven’t done anything on a static pole. So a couple of the classes that I did at Pole Festival were based on how to make dancing on a static pole “flow”. It’s a completely different kind of movement to what I’m used to and so I felt like I got heaps out of those workshops.

Burlesque. Oh this was a bit of saucy fun indeed. I learnt a few burlesque moves to teasingly take off clothes and put on a nice, tasteful, strip show.

Bruise pride. Every pole dancer knows this one. You talk to the other girls, or your partner or people at work or whatever and you’re like “look at all my bruises! I got this one from doing this trick/this class” etc. There’s a certain level of pride associated with the collection of bruises because hey I’ve been achieving something and doing cool tricks!

Coming home. Despite the fact that I had heaps of fun at Pole Festival, I still loved coming home. For me I just love coming home after a trip and being surrounded by my own things, my own shower and my own bed. It’s heavenly!

Remedial massage. I thought after getting back from Pole Festival that after dancing for a few hours each day that my muscles would be really achy and I’d need a massage. My muscles were actually fine, they didn’t feel sore or fatigued. But I decided to keep this massage time anyway, and oh boy was it painful! My body might not have felt sore but I tell you so many of my muscles were really, really tight so there was a lot of pressure point therapy, but at least those muscles feel looser now, whew.

I hope you all had a great week too, let me know in the comments below what the highlights of your week were.

Take care,

Jas

Friday Favourites, 17 July

I have done hardly any blogging this week as we were rounding up our trip to Bali, waiting in airports and getting home and being sick. The week has been full of ups and downs but right now I’ll just focus on the ups!

Relaxing by the pool. The first few days of our holiday in Bali was really full on, so it was nice to spend some time just relaxing in the warmth of the sun by the pool.

Original flights home. Fortunately, even though the volcano in Indonesia erupted again while we were on our way to the airport, we were still able to get our original flight home. There was a bit of waiting around to get cleared, but we were relieved to be going home as scheduled.

Seeing my pooch. Oh it was so good to see her sweet little face again, and she was so super excited to see us when we got home!

Sleeping in my bed. Sometimes, no matter how comfy the bed is when you’re travelling, it’s a relief to sink into your own bed for a good nights’ sleep.

Coffee and cake. I went out for coffee and cake this morning with a couple of the girls from work to celebrate one of their birthdays. Lovely ladies, it’s always nice catching up with them.

Tell me in the comments below, what were your highlights for the week?

Take care,

Jas
